As someone who has spent their life in tech and stayed away from all kinds of gambling since it’s for fools or card counters or the house, there’s nothing to see here. 40 year old non-scalable tech being shouted about as if its the 2nd (1st?) Coming is downright weird.
But I do get 2 things: my fellow (real) techies have two impulses, one good and one bad. The good is always trying to solve a tough problem with tech. The bad is trying to solve a tough problem that has a lot of money flowing at it. And social prestige, since we are nerds, after all.
But now every guy looking for a side gig or 2nd act or just themselves is in this space. Ignorance and myth dominate.
I can’t say where it will end, but I don’t foresee too many good outcomes, except the last attempt to make gold from base metal: a turn away from belief to science.
