This is not necessarily any validation. And it's the wrong question.
There will always be a demand for gambling and money laundering. If we add FOMO to the list of drivers, well of course there are scads of things to drive demand and interest.
Railroads had a future too and, boy, are there plenty of analogues to crypto.
The question is, do we want that future?
Opioids didn't have a future, too, until they did. Back in the '70s I knew junkies who used to say "...well, if the rest of America knew what I know and lived a life like mine, there wouldn't be enough heroin in all of Asia."
