Let’s sort out a few things here:

DFinity is a private enterprise funded by AndreesenHorowitz and others which pays all the developers and executives salaries to build and maintain the system. In other words, the “permissionless governance system” can presumably at any time at the behest of DFinity’s investors change it. Feel better now?

Just for perspective, this is how the “New Internet” works:

The DFinity coin was launched for trading on May 10, 2021. May 9 EOD/May 10 SOD price was $750. May 10 EOD price was $428. And today, as of this writing (21-Jul-2021), it is hovering around $33.
