For those who want to know what's up with Netanyahu, they can peruse the links below.

The short of it is, Netanyahu is indeed fighting for his political survival and it is not beyond possible (as paranoid as it may sound) that Netanyahu gamed everything out.

1. He had Hamas' plan for a year and did nothing but blamed the IDF/Security folks.

2. He is under multiple career-and-freedom-ending threats.

3. The location of Hamas attack was in a very left and very Gazan-friendly area. Be'eri is a very leftist kibbutz and town and the ravers are also almost all on the left and anti-Netanyahu. The attack would not take out any of his voters but (his hope?) turn them towards him after such an attack.

4. Netanyahu has been the protector and funder in chief of Hamas as a way to justify not having a 2-state solution. Hence, he and Smotrich have openly referred to Hamas as an "asset".
